What If the Keys You’re Looking for Are Already Within You?

September 08, 20266 min read

There’s a particular kind of exhaustion that comes from constantly looking outside yourself for the answer.

The next strategy.

The next achievement.

The next person who will finally tell you what you’re supposed to do.

The next sign that you’re good enough, ready enough, or worthy enough.

But what if worthiness isn’t something you have to earn?

What if it’s already there?

That idea sits at the heart of my newest Evolve Now conversation with Lia Valencia Key.

Lia is the founder of Valencia Key, an entrepreneur, speaker, and someone whose life story beautifully demonstrates what can happen when we stop allowing our circumstances to define what is possible for us.

She grew up experiencing homelessness and poverty.

Today, her jewelry has reached millions of homes, been featured on QVC, and been worn and shared by influential people around the world.

But what stayed with me most from our conversation wasn’t the outer success.

It was what happened long before any of that.

“Do you want to be a follower or a leader?”

When Lia was young, she began absorbing the environment around her.

The hopelessness.

The struggle.

The messages about what her future was likely to look like.

Then her mother asked her a question that changed everything:

Do you want to be a follower or a leader?

Her mother reminded her that there was a light within her. A calling. A destiny.

And she had a choice.

That realization gave Lia something incredibly powerful: the understanding that what she could see around her did not have to determine what she could become.

How many of us forget that?

We become so accustomed to what is that we stop asking what could be.

We follow the expectations.

We follow the career path.

We follow the version of success we were handed.

We follow the patterns we’ve always known.

And eventually, we may find ourselves living a life that looks successful from the outside while quietly wondering:

Is this actually mine?

Belief is an action

One of my favorite parts of our conversation came when Lia shared something her aunt taught her about love.

Love isn’t simply something you say.

You act it.

You show it.

You become it.

That lesson changed the way Lia thought about other words too, including belief.

If you say you believe something is possible, what action are you attaching to that belief?

This is where I think conversations about manifestation can sometimes get misunderstood.

Manifestation was never meant to be sitting on the couch thinking really hard about what you want and waiting for the universe to drop it at your front door.

There is participation involved.

There is intention.

There is awareness.

There is action.

When you become clear about what you’re calling into your life, you begin noticing possibilities you might have previously overlooked.

You recognize people, ideas, opportunities, synchronicities, and what I like to call God winks.

And then you move.

Maybe not with one enormous, dramatic leap.

Sometimes it’s simply one micro action.

Then another.

Then another.

Lia described her life as being built on micro actions toward what she believed was possible.

Those small actions eventually became beautiful outcomes.

That feels especially important for anyone who is standing at the edge of a new season and feeling overwhelmed by how far away the destination seems.

You don’t have to know the entire path.

You just need to be willing to take the next aligned step.

What are you actually looking for?

Our brains are constantly filtering information.

When something becomes important to us, we begin noticing more of it.

Buy a certain car and suddenly you see that car everywhere.

Start considering a new career and suddenly you notice conversations, people, and opportunities related to that work.

The same thing can happen with our beliefs.

If you are constantly looking for evidence that you can’t do something, you’ll probably find it.

If you believe everything is going wrong, there will always be another piece of evidence available.

But what happens when you begin looking for possibility?

What happens when you ask:

What is trying to emerge here?

What could this be teaching me?

What do I actually want?

What is calling me that I keep ignoring?

That last question may be the most important one.

Because I believe we all have something placed on our hearts.

And when life gets noisy enough, that voice can become very quiet.

Not because it disappeared.

Because we stopped making space to hear it.

Leadership has an energy

Lia and I also explored how these ideas translate into leadership.

Businesses spend enormous amounts of energy thinking about strategy, systems, marketing, profitability, and performance.

All of those things matter.

But there’s another question worth asking:

What is the energy underneath all of it?

How do people feel when they work with you?

Do they feel seen?

Do they feel needed?

Do they feel safe enough to contribute ideas?

Do they feel appreciated?

Do they feel like their light gets brighter in your presence or dimmer?

Lia calls this leading from light.

It doesn’t mean ignoring difficult conversations.

It doesn’t mean pretending everything is wonderful when it isn’t.

It means approaching challenges from possibility instead of blame.

When sales decline, the question doesn’t have to immediately become:

“Who screwed this up?”

It can become:

“What are we missing?”

“What could we do differently?”

“Where could we bring more value?”

“How can we solve this together?”

That shift matters.

Because when people feel known, valued, and supported, you create an invitation to innovation.

They stop simply checking boxes.

They begin bringing more of themselves to the work.

And that is where leadership becomes much bigger than performance management.

It becomes an opportunity to help people shine.

You already have the keys

There’s a reason Lia uses a key as the signature element in her Valencia Key jewelry.

She wants every person wearing it to remember something:

You have the keys within you.

The worthiness.

The possibility.

The gifts.

The calling.

The next version of yourself.

Growth isn’t necessarily about becoming someone completely different.

Sometimes it’s about removing everything that has kept you disconnected from who you already are.

Maybe there’s something you’ve been wanting to create.

A conversation you’ve been avoiding.

A book you want to write.

A message you want to share.

A career change you keep imagining.

A different way you want to lead.

You don’t need to have every detail figured out before you begin.

But you do have to choose.

And then you have to attach an action to that choice.

So here’s the question I’m sitting with after this conversation:

If you truly believed the thing on your heart was possible, what would you do next?

Not someday.

Not after you feel completely ready.

What small action would you take now?

My full conversation with Lia Valencia Key is now live on Evolve Now.

We talk about worthiness, her journey from homelessness to extraordinary success, manifestation and The Secret, leading from light, empathy in leadership, and learning to trust the keys already within you.
