How Words Can Destroy Your Business

...and what you can do about it

Why are words so important?

Words shape our understanding and guide our decisions. They can help your clients decide whether or not you are the right fit for them and as a result, attract or repel customers.

Sadly, most people don’t really analyze the clarity of their messaging and therefore, fall short of their desired impact. If you think your efforts should be landing more customers, it could be that energetically, you’re missing the mark.

It’s amazing what the mind does with words. Words can paint a whole scene in our minds within a fraction of a second. Words can conjure a feeling of temperature — words like “steamy” or “frigid.” They can even make you see a color in your mind without even using the color’s name — words like “sunny” or “gloomy.”

Sales is a transference of emotion. The biggest question is, how are you making people feel?

Your Personal Brand

So how does this relate to you and your personal brand? Your personal brand is your reputation. And your reputation is what people think of when they think of you. You already have a reputation. Is it being shaped by accident or are you crafting it intentionally?

Answer these two questions first:

  1. Are you building your personal brand around your customer’s biggest problem? (Are you making them feel like you get them?)
  2. And are you powerfully positioning yourself as having the solution to that problem?

If you’re not, you’re probably missing opportunities. You need to portray yourself as the go-to person to solve your prospects’ problems.

But how?

By using the power of words more effectively you can be a magnet, not a megaphone. It’s less about listing all the benefits and more about describing what it feels like to NOT have those benefits. If you can give words to the way it feels to have the problem, people will assume you also have the solution.

And you can do that by using the right words in your messaging.

A Gap In the Market

All this also applies to professionals whose work demands client clarity.
If you’re a consultant, personal brand coach, copywriter, website designer, marketing expert, email funnel builder, etc., you’ve probably had clients who aren’t able to strongly articulate who they are, who they serve, what they do, and how they do it; they haven’t done the hard work of clarifying their messaging.

And if they can’t tell you that, what do you think is happening to their prospects?

Now, imagine you’re able to guide that clarity by helping your clients find their brand DNA. It’ll be an absolute game changer! Your conversion rates will skyrocket.

Why?

Because this lack of clarity is a problem a lot of people have, and you can be the answer to that problem. This not only helps your clients, but helps you do what you do so much better!

Now that you know how words can make all the difference, you can make your messaging (and that of your clients) into a more powerful lead-converting machine.
